DepEd logs 12.6 million enrollees for SY 2021-2022

A day before the school opening month, the Department of Education (DepEd) has recorded over of 12.6 million enrollees at the basic education level for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.

Enrollment figures released by DepEd of Aug. 31 showed that there are 12, 697, 558 enrollees for basic formal education for the incoming school year.

Of this number, 4, 557, 327 are Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners who participated in the Early Registration held last March to May.

From Aug. 16, which was the start of regular enrollment, data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count showed that there are 8, 140, 231 learners enrolled across basic education levels.

Of this number, a total of 7, 693, 878 learners currently enrolled in public schools; 437, 426 students in private schools; and 8, 927 in State Universities and Colleges/ Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs/LUCs) that offer basic education program.

Based on DepEd data, Region IV-A still has the highest number of enrollees with 2, 073, 397, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1, 278, 207 and Region III with 1, 173, 911.

DepEd said that the current number of enrollees accounts to 48.4 percent of last school year’s basic education enrollment at 26, 227, 022.

Meanwhile, DepEd said that there are 87, 731 enrollees under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program. This number is 14.64 percent of the SY 2020-2021 enrollment at 599, 365.

Classes in public schools will start on Sept. 13 as approved by President Duterte.

Private schools were allowed to open their respective school years earlier provided there are no face-to-face classes and that blended or distance learning set-up will be implemented.
