Pasig City celebrates Nagsabado sa Pasig

The City of Pasig celebrated on Sunday, August 29, its annual Nagsabado sa Pasig commemorating one of the most successful victories of Filipinos against the Spaniards in 1896.

"Tuwing ika-29 ng Agosto, inaalala ng mga Pasigueño ang Nagsabado sa Pasig. Noong Agosto 29, 1896, halos 2,000 Pasigueño ang nagmartsa papunta sa Plaza (Plaza Rizal ngayon) at napagtagumpayang makuha ang kuta ng mga guardiya sibil (Every 29th of August, Pasigueños celebrate Nagsabado sa Pasig. On August 29, 1896, over 2,000 Pasigueños marched to the Plaza (now called Plaza Real) and successfully took over the tribunal and headquarters of the Guardia Civil)," the LGU (local government unit) said in its Facebook post.

"Ang Nagsabado sa Pasig ang itinuturing na isa sa pinakamatagumpay na pag-aaklas na pinanungahan ng mga Katipunerong Pasigueño sa pamumuno ni Heneral Valentin Cruz. Ito ang unang panalo na naitala sa tanan ng rebolusyon laban sa mga kastila — kaya naman nasambit ni Gat Andres Bonifacio ang mga katagang: “Tunay na magigiting ang batampasig (Nagsabado sa Pasig is considered as one of the most successful revolts of Filipinos and Pasigueño Katipuneros led by General Valentin Cruz. This is the first victory of Filipinos during the revolution against the Spaniards -- that is why Gat Andres Bonifacio said: "Tunay na magigiting ang batampasig)," it added.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto urged his constituents and the public to keep the essence of Nagsabado sa Pasig in their hearts especially amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"Ngayong panahon ng krisis, nawa'y mabuhay muli ang diwa ng Nagsabado – sa ating Lungsod at sa buong Pilipinas. Gaya ng nakita sa Pasig nung ika-29 ng Agusto 1896, basta't nagkakaisa ang mga Pilipino, tiyak na mas malayo ang mararating natin (During this time of crisis, may the essence of Nagsabado be in the hearts and minds of our citizens and in the whole country. Just like what happened on August 29, 1896, as long as we are united, we can truly go a long way)," Sotto said.

"Mula sa volunteers ng Community Kitchen na madaling araw pa lang ay nagluluto na...hanggang sa mga medical at non-medical frontliners na napapalaban araw-araw...at maging sa mga ordinaryong mamamayan na sumusunod sa mga health protocols...

"Hindi puwedeng iilan lang ang kumikilos – lahat tayo ay may maiaambag tungo sa ikabubuti ng sitwasyon sa ating bayan (From the volunteers of the community Kitchen who are already cooking at dawn, to the medical and non-medical frontliners who are fighting the pandemic everyday, and even to the ordinary citizen following the health protocols...all of us should do something for the improvement of the situation and our country)," he added.
