A 4.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Agusan del Sur on Sunday evening, Aug. 29, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake was traced at 9 kilometers (km) northeast of Santa Josefa, Agusan del Sur at around 10:52 p.m.
It was initially measured at magnitude 4.9 but Phivolcs later revised it to magnitude 4.8.
The earthquake was "moderately strong" at Intensity IV in Rosario and Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, and Monkayo, Davao de Oro.
Meanwhile, it was "weak" at Intensity III in Mawab, Nabunturan, Montevista, New Bataan, and Compostela, Davao De Oro, and was slightly felt at Intensity II in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, and Bislig City.
It was "scarcely perceptible" at Intensity I in Maco, Davao de Oro.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means the tremor was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
It was also shallow at a depth of 5 km thus the strong shaking.
However, Phivolcs said that no damage and aftershocks are expected following the earthquake.
