Sinigang Supremacy! PH's sinigang is world's best-rated vegetable soup

Classic Filipino dish sinigang was hailed as the best-rated vegetable soup in the world by global food website TasteAtlas after it garnered a near perfect rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars.

On its website, TasteAtlas described sinigang as "a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine" with its "sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country."

"Sinigang is a sour Filipino soup consisting of sampalok (fruits of the tamarind tree), water spinach, green pepper, cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, diced tomatoes, sliced onions, ginger, green beans, water, oil, and salt. The basic broth usually consists of rice washing, with the addition of a souring agent," TasteAtlas wrote.

The popular Filipino dish topped the "best rated" category among more than 160 vegetable soups across the world and placed 19th in the "most popular" category with 91 reviews as of this posting.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's borscht was hailed as the most popular with 581 reviews and a rating of 4.1 stars out of 5. Check out the full list here.

TasteAtlas also recommended three restaurants that supposedly serve the best sinigang in the Philippines--Locavore in Pasig City; and Sentro1771 and Fely J's Restaurant, both of which are in Makati City.

TasteAtlas describes itself as "An encyclopedia of flavors, a world atlas of traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants."

It has catalogued over 10,000 foods and drinks around the world.
