Comelec suspends voter registration in Metro Manila during ECQ
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has suspended the voter registration in the National Capital Region (NCR) during the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.

"ECQ in NCR means a shutdown of the physical offices of Comelec in NCR. Voter registration will be effectively suspended in NCR," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said on Twitter, Tuesday, August 3.
The Inter Agency Task Force placed NCR under ECQ from August 6 to 20 to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Jimenez said it is also "unlikely" that the voter registration will be extended.
On July 30, the poll official said the re-imposition of ECQ in NCR will have an impact in the ongoing voter registration for the May 2022 polls.
However, Jimenez said, they have already exceeded their expectations for voter registration during a pandemic.
"More than 4 million newly eligible voters are already included in the voter rolls, and we have already blown past earlier and lower projections of the total number of voters registered for the 2022 National and Local Elections," he said.
In a radio interview, Jimenez explained that they are already pressed for time based on their election calendar.
"Based on our calendar, after the registration on September 30, the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) will commence. That will signal the need to finalize the list of voters. That is a long process and if it isn't started on time, we will run out of time down the line," he said.
