PH sets another record for 2nd highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 18,528 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Sunday, Aug. 29 -- the new record for the second highest single-day case tally.

The biggest single-day tally was recorded on Saturday, Aug 28, with 19,441, while the third highest tally was on Aug. 23, with 18,332 cases recorded then.

With this development, the number of active cases increased to 143,221 or 7.3 percent of the total case count of 1,954,023.

Based on the latest case bulletin, 95.3 percent were mild, two percent were asymptomatic, 0.6 percent were in critical condition, 1.1 percent were severe, and one percent were in moderate condition.

The death toll also climbed to 33,109 which is equivalent to 1.69 percent of the case total. This includes 101 new fatalities.

Meanwhile, 17,922 more patients were able to recover, raising the recovery count to 1,777,693 -- representing 91 percent of the country's COVID-19 tally.

On Sunday, the DOH also reported the detection of 516 Delta new variant cases, 73 Alpha variant cases, 81 Beta variant cases, and 41 P.3 variant cases in the latest batch of whole genome sequencing.

“The DOH further reminds the public to immediately isolate upon experiencing symptoms, consult with telemedicine providers, and coordinate with their respective Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) to facilitate isolation and testing. Further, the Department encourages the public to get vaccinated and complete the required doses for additional protection against COVID-19,” the DOH said.
