Nurses' group calls for Duque's resignation

The Filipino Nurses United (FNU) has agreed to the plan of Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III to step down from his position.

"We think it will do good for our country," said FNU Secretary-General Jocelyn Andamo on Sunday, Aug. 29

"We are like in a public health disaster that should be rescued. Every single second counts and every life should be saved," she added.

However, even if Duque quits from his position, Andamo said that he should still "be made accountable."

In a radio interview on Saturday, Aug.28, Duque said that he will step down from his position after the issues raised against the Department of Health (DOH) will all be cleared.

The DOH is currently addressing the issues raised in the Commission on Audit's (COA) report, which flagged the agency for its handling of COVID-19 funds worth P67 billion.

"Yun naman ang aking pakiusap na i-clear ang COA findings, COA observations, at yung aming action plan doon sa mga recommendations and then I am leaving (That is my request--to clear the COA findings and observations and to implement our action plans on those recommendations and then I am leaving)," said Duque.
