Cloudy skies, rain showers over parts of PH due to ITCZ, easterlies -- PAGASA

The easterlies may continue to affect the eastern section of northern Luzon, while the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may prevail over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Aug. 29.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Aurora, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

The ITCZ, a region where the trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, may also bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.

PAGASA warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with short-lived heavy rain, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

The State weather bureau has not issued any gale warning on Sunday morning as coastal water conditions will be slight to moderate.

It said that fisherfolk and seafarers are safe to sail.
