Easterlies, ITCZ to bring scattered rain showers, thunderstorms over parts of PH -- PAGASA

The easterlies may continue to affect eastern Luzon, while the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may prevail over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 28.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Aurora, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

The ITCZ, which is a rain-inducing weather system that has circulations or low pressure systems, may also bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.

PAGASA warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with short-lived heavy rain, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said PAGASA has not monitored a low pressure area that may affect the country in the next few days.

The State weather bureau has also not issued any gale warning on Saturday afternoon as coastal water conditions will be slight to moderate. Fisherfolk and seafarers are safe to sail.
