Manila LGU sets up 40-foot refrigerated container van for bodies of COVID-19 victims

The Manila city government has set up a refrigerated container van which will be used to temporarily store the bodies of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) victims.

Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said on Friday (Aug. 27) that they set up the refrigerated van in preparation for a possible surge of COVID-related deaths.

"Basta ready lang tayo (We will be ready). As always," Domagoso said.

According to Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, the container van will serve as a temporary storage facility for the bodies of coronavirus victims prior to their cremation.

The 40-foot container van is located beside the Mega COVID-19 Field Hospital at Luneta Park.

As of Friday (Aug. 27), the local government recorded 451 new infections, increasing the total number of current active cases to 1,840 and bringing the total tally to 75,050.

It also recorded 297 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 71,805.

Four new COVID-19 deaths were also reported in the city.
