Jerrold Mangliwan gets disqualified in men's 400m T52 finals

Wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan failed in his medal campaign in the Tokyo Paralympics Friday night after getting disqualified in the men’s 400 meters T52 class.

Racing on Lane 3, Mangliwan registered a personal best of 1 minute and 0.80 seconds to finish fifth, but technical officials eventually ruled him as disqualified due to lane infringement.

Japan’s Tomoki Sato clinched the gold medal with a personal-best 55.39sec, while United States’ Raymond Martin and Japan’s Hirokazu Ueyonabaru finished silver and bronze with 55.59sec and 59.95sec, respectively.

American Isaiah Rigo was also disqualified in the race like Mangliwan due to similar infraction.

Mangliwan qualified to the finals after finishing seventh in the morning heats with 1:03.41.

Mangliwan, who is also the country’s flag bearer in the opening ceremony, will also compete in the men’s 1500m T2 on Saturday and men’s 100m T52 on Sept. 2.
