DepEd records 10.2M enrollees in formal, 52K learners in ALS for SY 2021-2022

The enrollment in formal and informal systems of education under the Department of Education (DepEd) has reached the 10 million mark as of Friday, Aug. 27.

Based on the enrollment figures released by DepEd, there are 10, 254, 650 enrollees for basic formal education and 52, 425 learners under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program nationwide.

Data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count showed that there are 5, 376, 847 learners currently enrolled in public schools; 313, 958 students in private schools; and 6,518 in State Universities and Colleges / Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs/LUCs) that offer basic education.

On Aug. 16, DepEd started its the regular enrollment. To date, there are 5, 697, 323 learners enrolled across basic education levels.

Region IV-A still has the highest number of enrollees with 1,727, 958. It was followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 990, 394 and Region III with 973, 005.

DepEd said that the latest enrollment data included the incoming 4, 557, 327 Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners who participated in the Early Registration held last March to May.

Data from DepEd showed that there were 26.2 million enrollees in formal education and 599, 365 enrollees in the ALS for SY 2020-2021.

During a press briefing this week, Education Secretary Leonor Briones explained that the state of enrollment is related to the state of economy - especially in Metro Manila which is the nerve-center of economic activities.

This, she added, is very clear in the initial results of enrollment particularly in private schools and in ALS where “a significant number of learners are working.”
