Damaged seawall in a coastal village in Agusan del Norte reconstructed

A coastal village in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte has now a sturdier protection over life-threatening storm surges with the completion of a P102.8-million seawall in the area.

It is actually a replacement for a damaged seawall in Barangay Punta in Nasipit, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the repair is necessary as the old seawall has suffered damage and degradation over the years.

"Its height could no longer protect against overflow and big waves from sweeping light material houses along the shore especially during heavy rains," Villar said.

The new structure will protect the residents from big waves, storm surge, soil erosion, and flooding, DPWH-Region 13 Director Pol Delos Santos noted.

The P102.8-million project involved the reconstruction of the seawall and wave deflector with three-meter width road concreting and installation of solar street lights.

The secretary further said that the structure also doubles as an area for recreation and fitness activities.

"The new seawall also offers a venue for recreation and fitness activities for locals and visitors while enjoying a picturesque view of the sunrise and sunset," Villar said.
