Pacquiao camp insists: Go-Duterte tandem a 'decoy candidacy' in favor of Sara Duterte
The camp of Senator Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao on Wednesday, August 25, dismissed President Duterte’s announcement he is ready to run for vice president in the May, 2022 national elections, saying the grassroots members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) believe that a Senator Christopher “Bong” Go-Duterte tandem is merely a "decoy candidacy" in favor of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“We will repeat our earlier statement that the grassroots members of the party believe that the Go-Duterte tandem is merely a smokescreen/distraction for their real candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte,” said Ron Munsayac, executive director and chairman of the public information committee of Pacquiao-led PDP-Laban wing.
“It's very impossible that the right hand of the President will go against his boss' daughter. This tandem is merely a distraction to shield their ‘real’ candidate from political attacks and to weaken the PDP Laban with this decoy candidacy,” he added.
Munsayac’s statement comes after presidential spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed to reporters that Duterte said he would not run for vice president in 2022 if his daughter will pursue a presidential bid.
Roque admitted that part of his statement was edited out of the taped weekly address of the President. Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles confirmed this in an interview on CNN Philippines, saying the President is not convinced on a possible Duterte-Duterte outcome.
Prior to this, Nograles disclosed the President has agreed to run for vice president next year. The group of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, has been batting for a Go-Duterte tandem.
Mayor Duterte has expressed her openness to run for president in next year’s elections but has yet to bare her political plans.
With this development, Munsayac projected that the Go-Duterte tandem can officially withdraw from the presidential and vice presidential race at any time from the time of filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) up to noon time of election day in order not to be officially considered to have lost the election.
Eventually they will issue very clear and firm orders to their campaign machinery and supporters to vote for Sara Duterte as President instead of him, he said.
“It's just sad that the PDP-Laban, a party founded to fight against tyranny, dictatorship, and one-family rule is being used by a handful of political appointees to extend their hold on power. The grassroots members of the party will not allow this to happen,” Munsayac stressed.
Munsayac also said the five names being floated by the camp of Cusi as the PDP-Laban’s potential senatorial candidates are questionable considering they are not even members of the party.
“With regards to the five names floated to form part of the PDP-Laban senatorial slate, these fine gentlemen aren't even members of the party, how can they be our candidates for the Senate?” he said.
“It's pretty obvious that our new members who ‘hijacked’ the PDP Laban aren't aware of the Party's principles and processes,” he pointed out.
