Militant fishers' group Pambansang Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA) denounced on Wednesday, Aug. 25, President Duterte's acceptance of his nomination by the PDP-Laban to be its candidate for vice president in 2022.

"He did accept the nomination, the question is, will the fishermen accept him? We're sure not, because for us, President Duterte is a traitorous leader who betrayed our territory to his foreign boss. The fisherfolks strongly reject another term of Duterte in 2022, simply put," PAMALAKAYA said in Filipino.
During his late night "Talk to the People" on Wednesday, Duterte made his first categorical statement that he will run for vice president in 2022.
"Duterte is super obsessed to cling into power beyond his constitutional term. His formal declaration to run for vice president is a detestable political circus, bastardization of the constitution, and deceitful of voting public rolled into one. We seek for an immediate end of Duterte's tyranny that kills and starves the people, not prolonged anti-people policies and state terrorism," PAMALAKAYA National Chairperson Fernando Hicap said.
Hicap said it is under Duterte's term that China has "heightened its military presence in the West Philippine Sea and escalated its hostile and aggressive behavior towards Filipino fishers."
PAMALAKAYA said that Duterte's vice presidential bid is a "vile attempt to remain a de facto President amid his indictment in the International Criminal Court over crimes against humanity."
On June 15, ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda asked the tribunal to open an investigation into the alleged crimes against humanity during the drug war from 2016 to 2019.
According to Bensouda, around 12,000 to 30,000 civilians were killed from July 2016 to March 2019 in connection with the government's anti-illegal drug campaign.
"This sinister plot to perpetuate from power is Duterte's devious stratagem to evade accountability in an international criminal court for his high crimes against humanity that stemmed from the brutal war on drugs and policies of state terrorism," Hicap added.
"We vow to campaign against any candidate who would carry the same brand of puppetry and tyranny of Duterte. Only progressive candidates who renounce Duterte's fascist and puppet regime deserve the support of the electorate in next year's electoral derby."
