Comelec says budget cut to significantly impact conduct of May 2022 polls
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the deep cut in their proposed budget will significantly impact how the poll body will conduct the 2022 National and Local Elections.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 25, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the Commission is already reviewing its budget to see where "adjustments need to be made."
"Even a cursory review of the National Expenditure Program, however, immediately reveals that the budget for the Electoral Boards will be one of the most affected," he said.
Jimenez assured the public that the poll body will "continue to advocate for its budget in order to ensure that the 2022 National Elections will be honest, credible, orderly, peaceful, and safe."
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) earlier decided to cut down the Comelec's proposed budget in the 2022 National Expenditure Program to P26.497 billion.
The Commission had sought for a P41.9 billion budget for next year.
