Comelec: Registered voters in May 2022 polls now more than 61 million

There are now more than 61 million registered voters for the May 2022 polls.

"We set the expectation at 59 million. We blew past 60 million, and we're now - based on partial reports - at 61.06 million registered voters," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said on Twitter.

In a statement, the poll official also maintained that there will be no voter registration activities in areas in not under general community quarantine (GCQ) or modified GCQ areas.

"Comelec policy has always been clear: no registration in non-GCQ or MGCQ areas," said Jimenez.

He added "We don’t use the APOR (Authorized Persons Outside Residence) classification system."

Jimenez said all qualified registrants are entertained when they come to the office to register.

Voter registration is currently suspended in areas under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ (MECQ) which include the National Capital Region (NCR).

The voter registration period will end on Sept. 30.
