8.5M learners have enrolled for SY 2021-2022, says DepEd

As it adopts an enhanced remote enrollment for School Year (SY) 2021-2022, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, Aug. 25, announced that it has reached more than 8.5 million enrollees so far.

Based on the latest enrollment data released by the agency, the total number of enrollees for basic formal education nationwide is 8,557,205.

The enrollment data covered both public and private schools - including higher education institutions (HEIs) that offer basic education.

DepEd started the regular enrollment on Aug. 16. This will be held until Sept. 13 or the first day of classes for SY 2021-2022.

Based on the data from the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count, there are 3, 793, 166 learners enrolled in public schools; 201, 147 learners in private schools; and 5, 565 in State Universities and Colleges / Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs/LUCs) nationwide.

Since Aug. 16, there are 3, 999, 787 enrollees across basic education levels.

Based on the same data, the Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees 1,430,535. It was followed by Region III with 829,624, and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 815,857.

The latest enrollment data of DepEd included the number of learners who participated in the Early Registration held from March to May this year.

DepEd said there were 4, 557, 327 incoming Kindergarten, Grades 7 and 11 learners who registered early for SY 2021-2022.

To ensure the safety of teachers, parents and learners amidst the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country, DepEd said that a remote enrollment system should be in place in areas under stricter community quarantine classifications.

Schools were directed to make use of various platforms to ensure that enrollment would be accessible to as many stakeholders as possible. Parents and guardians may text, call, email, and send online messages to enroll their children.

DepEd said that limited physical submission of enrollment forms may be allowed in low risk areas as long as the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), the Office of the President, and the Department of Health (DOH) are complied with.
