President Duterte has committed to run for VP, says Nograles

President Duterte has committed to run for vice president in the May 2022 elections, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said.

Nograles made the announcement during an interview Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 24 over at Radyo Pilipinas.

Nograles said he was part of the meeting of ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on Monday night, which was attended by Duterte.

"Doon siya nagbitaw na siya ng salita na tatanggapin na niya ang aming endorsement (There, he made a commitment that he will accept our endorsement)," Nograles said.

"Kami po lahat ay natuwa, palalpakan kami (All of us were elated, we erupted in applause)," he added.

PDP-Laban had earlier nominated Duterte as its 2022 vice presidential bet, since the 1987 Constitution prevents him from running for reelection as chief executive.

With this development, Nograles said he expects Duterte to formally accept the party's nomination during the national convention on Sept. 8.
