PH active COVID-19 cases now over 127K; death toll exceeds 32K

Active cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country increased to over 127,000 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported over 12,000 new infections.
The DOH said there were 12,067 new COVID-19 cases nationwide. This brought the active cases or those who are still sick to 127,703 as of Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Ten laboratories were not able to submit their data on time to the DOH COVID-19 system. Their respective COVID-19 data are not yet included in the latest count.
Of the active cases, 95.5 percent have mild symptoms, 1.7 percent are asymptomatic, 0.6 percent are critical, 1.2 percent are severe, and 0.93 percent have moderate symptoms.
The DOH also reported 14,565 more recoveries and 303 new deaths among COVID-19 patients.
The recovery count increased to 1,709,724 while the death toll jumped to 32,264, the DOH said.
Since the pandemic hit the country last year, the DOH has already recorded a total of 1,869,691 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
"Twenty-two duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 15 are recoveries," the DOH said.
