A man caught smoking in public was arrested by the police when they discovered suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) in his possession in Taguig on Monday.
The Taguig police identified the suspect as Froilan Talavera, 38, of Buting, Pasig City, who was nabbed during an “Oplan Galugad” along Maguindanao Street, New Lower Bicutan.

Talavera was smoking while walking when he was approached by police officers who informed him that he was in violation of Taguig City Ordinance No. 15 on anti-smoking.
When the police frisked him, they found the drugs in his possession. The police confiscated about 27.9 grams of shabu worth P189,720 and a coin purse.
The suspect is currently under the custody of the Taguig Drug Enforcement Unit for investigation. For the drug offense, he may face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“This is another successful operation against illegal drugs. I hope this will serve as a warning as the Southern Police District will continue the campaign against drug traffickers and users,” said Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, SPD director.
Last week, authorities arrested a man who was caught without a face mask but turned out to be in possession of shabu, grenade, and firearm in New Lower Bicutan.
