Nearly 100 motorcycle riders nabbed for helmet law violation in Bulacan

Aside from violating the rules on non-essential travels, some motorcycle riders are also defying law on the use of helmet which experts said is not only protection from accident but another line of defense from infection of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

This, as the Inter-agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) revealed that nearly 100 motorcycle riders were accosted along with McArthur Highway in Bocaue, Bulacan alone on Monday.

Of the 116 apprehended motorcycle riders in the area on Monday, the I-ACT said 95 of them were related to violation of the Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009. The apprehended riders were each issued a temporary operator’s permit (TOP) and fined amounting to P1,500

The task force expressed dismay over the huge number of traffic violators. It underscored that it will continue to monitor and enforce strict traffic laws and protocols in the bus stations and highway roads.

“The I-ACT, along with partner agencies, continue to strictly enforce traffic laws and health protocols, to ensure the safety of motorists and commuters,” the I-ACT said in a statement.

On Sunday, the Philippine National Police reported that more than 100,000 violators were accosted for violation of the quarantine rules, some of them are motorcycle riders who were intercepted at the border control points of Metro Manila and adjacent provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna.
