Jimmy Alapag gets new coaching stint with Stockton Kings in G League

The NBA Summer League stint did result in another coaching opportunity for Jimmy Alapag after he was hired as an assistant of the Stockton Kings, a G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings.

Stockton made the announcement Monday, Aug. 23 (Tuesday Philippine time), almost a week after Alapag was part of the Sacramento squad that won the Summer League crown in Las Vegas as a member of Bobby Jackson’s coaching staff.

Jackson, who was named Stockton’s new coach in late-May, and Sacramento front office were perhaps impressed with Alapag’s second tour of duty and were keen on giving the PBA and Gilas Pilipinas legend the G-League gig.

“Words can't express how thankful I am for this opportunity to join the Stockton Kings for the upcoming NBA G League season,” Alapag said in a social media post hours after the G-League announcement.

“Special thanks to Coach (Jackson) and (Sacramento director of basketball operations and Stockton general manager Paul Johnson) for believing in me and giving me this chance.

“Looking forward to connecting with the entire Stockton community. Time to get to work!!!” Alapag concluded.

The Summer League stint and the G League hiring came more than a year after Alapag’s last coaching tenure which was in the ASEAN Basketball League with Alab Pilipinas.

Alapag and his family left the country almost a year ago with the aim of getting coaching opportunities that finally came to fruition.
