DFA records 946 new COVID cases, 35 deaths among overseas Pinoys last week

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has reported a total of 946 new confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases and 35 new deaths in connection with the dreaded disease among overseas Filipinos during the past week.

Amid the increasing number of new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, at least 205 overseas Filipinos have recovered last week, the department said in a report Monday, August 23.

Compared to the previous week’s figures, the total number of COVID-19 fatalities, cases under treatment, and recoveries increased by 2.63 percent, 9.01 percent, and 1.63 percent, respectively.

Europe is the only region that did not have new cases among overseas Filipinos this past week.

Based on the tally collated by the various Philippine foreign service posts, the Middle East and Africa had the highest number of cases and Asia-Pacific had the highest deaths and recoveries recorded for the week.

Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in February 2020, the DFA has so far recorded a total of 22,713 confirmed cases among overseas Filipinos.

Of the total confirmed cases, 8,538 are undergoing treatment, 12,808 have recovered or been discharged from medical facilities, while 1,367 succumbed to the virus.

To date, the DFA has listed a total of 101 countries and territories with Filipino COVID-19 cases.
