75% of COVID-19 patients in Manila not vaccinated – health official

About 70 to 75 percent of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients in Manila are not vaccinated, Dr. Arnold "Poks" Pangan, the city health officer, reported on Tuesday (Aug. 24).

"Base po sa datos na nakalap natin, 70 to 75 percent po sa mga pasyente na admitted po dito sa ating anim na hospital, sa atin pong field hospital at quarantine facilities hindi po bakunado (Based on the data that we gathered, 70 to 75 percent of people admitted in six district hospitals, field hospital, and quarantine facilities are not vaccinated)," Dr. Pangan said during the city's daily special report.

The Mega COVID-19 Field Hospital, which has a 344-bed capacity, has 312 patients afflicted with the dreaded disease.

The six district hospitals in the city have reached 64 percent of their bed capacity with a total of 314 beds already occupied.

A total of 192 beds in the city’s quarantine facilities are now also occupied.

According to Dr. Pangan, nine people died due to COVID-19 in the city on Tuesday (Aug. 24), eight of them were not vaccinated.

Noting the current COVID-19 situation in the city, Pangan highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated as it is the only protection against the virus.

Under the prevailing Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila, the city government is still implementing the "no walk in" policy in all vaccination sites while walk-ins are allowed in mall sites only.
