More than 26,000 violators accosted in first 2 days of MECQ in NCR
The Philippine National Police (PNP) have accosted more than 26,000 violators of minimum public health standard and quarantine protocols in the first two days of the implementation of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said their data are classified into three categories—violations of minimum public heath standard (MPHS), curfew and prohibition for non-APOR (non-Authorized Persons Outside Residence) to go out and cross borders.
For MPHS, a total of 17,541 violators were warned, arrested and fined from August 21 to 22.
For curfew violations, a total of 7,542 were accosted. The National Capital Region (NCR) has an existing 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew hours.
And for non-APOR violations, a total of 1,569 were accosted.
Eleazar said that if the accosted violators from four adjacent provinces would be included, the number of accosted violators since August 21 is more than 90,000.
Metro Manila was placed under MECQ on August 21, or after a two-week ECQ implementation from August 6-20.
The decision is part of the effort to contain the spread of the virus. However, the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases continue to rise despite the strict quarantine status.
