FDA grants EUA to Sputnik Light vaccine

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) to Sputnik Light vaccine.

FDA Director General Eric Domingo said the EUA was granted on August 20.

"It was granted last Friday. A single dose vaccine for ages 18 and up," he said.

Vaccine czar and chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19) Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. also announced the news Monday.

Meanwhile, Domingo said Sputnik Light cannot be used as second dose for Sputnik V.

He explained that Sputnik Light is "not the same as the second dose of Sputnik V."

The FDA granted an EUA to the two-dose Sputnik V of Gamaleya Research Institute last March.

Other COVID-19 vaccines with EUA are Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Bharat Biotech, and Moderna.
