Close to 70% of COVID-infected people in Metro Manila are unvaccinated -- MMDA Chief

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos bared Monday, Aug. 23, that almost 70 percent of people infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Metro Manila are unvaccinated, prompting him to call on residents to get the life-saving jab.

"Seventy percent ng nagkakasakit ngayon ng COVID ay unvaccinated. Karamihan ng mga namamatay ay 'yong mga unvaccinated. Pagdating naman sa critical and severe, hindi rin nagkakalayo. Karamihan ng asymptomatic ay fully vaccinated (Seventy percent of people getting COVID are unvaccinated. Most of the deaths are unvaccinated. When it comes to critical and severe cases, they are not far apart. Most of asymptomatic are fully vaccinated)," Abalos said during a national vaccination rollout in San Mateo, Rizal.

Of the 21,765 COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) as of August 21, 15,130 or 69.52 percent of them are unvaccinated, according to the MMDA chief.

Of this, 9,843 are asymptomatic, 4,423 are mild cases, 572 are moderate, 92 are severe cases, 18 are in critical condition, and 182 are deaths.

"These data would speak for itself that really it's very important to get vaccinated. Once we have everyone fully vaccinated, we could be more flexible," Abalos said in a separate press briefing.

Out of the 21, 765 cases in Metro Manila, 4,007 are already fully vaccinated while 2,628 are partially vaccinated.

At present, NCR has a total of 27,099 active cases while a total of 3,641 lockdowns are implemented within the region.
