Storm 'Isang' weakens, exits PH area of responsibility

Tropical cyclone "Isang" (international name "Omais") weakened into a tropical storm as it left the country's area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 22, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The location of tropical storm Isang was estimated at 605 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes at around 4 p.m.

From a severe tropical storm on Sunday morning, Isang weakened into a tropical storm on Sunday afternoon.

PAGASA said Isang now has maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

Isang is no longer expected to affect the country in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or "habagat" will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga del Sur in the next 24 hours.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
