DOH logs 16K more COVID-19 cases, active cases exceed 125K
The Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 16,044 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Sunday, Aug. 22.
The latest figure pushed the country’s running case tally to 1,839,635, of which, 6.8 percent or 125,900 are active cases, according to the DOH’s case bulletin.
Of the active cases, 93.8 percent were experiencing mild symptoms, 3.4 percent were asymptomatic, 0.6 percent were critical, 1.2 percent were severe, and 0.94 percent were in moderate condition.
The death toll also rose to 31,810, which is equivalent to 1.73 percent of the country’s total COVID-19 cases, after the Health department reported that 215 more people died.
Meanwhile, the number of recoveries increased by 13,952 to 1,681,925, which represents 91.4 percent of the nationwide case tally.

The DOH said 460 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of which, 427 are recoveries and one is a death.
Moreover, 120 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
“Sa mga susunod na araw ay maari pang tumaas ang ating mga kaso ng COVID-19 (In the coming days, our COVID-19 cases may continue to increase),” the DOH said.
According to the DOH’s latest report, all laboratories were operational on Aug. 20, while there were six laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
