31 fishermen arrested for illegal fishing in Cavite

Thirty-one fishermen aboard five motorbancas were arrested by the personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for illegal fishing off Ternate, Cavite on Friday, Aug. 20.

In an incident report on Saturday, Aug. 21, the PCG said the 31 local fishermen were caught using air compressors in fishing activities near the waters of Kayokno and Paniman in Ternate.

Their fishing gears were confiscated and properly accounted for pending filing of appropriate charges, the report noted.

The PCG said charges will be filed against the fishermen for violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 2, series of 2011 for fishing without licenses and permits, as well as the use of air compressors.

Meanwhile, personnel of the PCG Station Cavite, Coast Guard Intelligence Unit Cavite, Coast Guard Sub-Station Ternate, and Coast Guard Sub-Station Maragondon are continuously conducting seaborne patrols to apprehend illegal fishing activities in the area.
