'Walang pula, walang dilaw': Ninoy's 38th death anniversary remembered

Calls for unity reverberated on Saturday morning, Aug. 21, as the 38th death anniversary of former senator and democracy icon Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was commemorated by some supporters at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Several supporters attended a ceremony organized by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) in celebration of the Ninoy Aquino Day including Fernando PeÃ±a, of Roses Foundation, and Rebecca Quijano, the so-called "Crying Lady" who witnessed the assassination of Ninoy on Aug. 21, 1983 at the tarmac of NAIA.

Wreaths of flowers were offered by Ninoy's supporters, whose death paved the way for the downfall of dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., as they urged Filipinos to unite especially in this trying times of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

"Magkaisa na tayong mga Pilipino. Wala ng pula, dilaw, at pulitika (All Filipinos should unite. There should be no team red, yellow, and politics)," said PeÃ±a.

He also honored all the frontliners who are leading the fight against the pandemic.
