Mayor Emi vows help for 5 mothers, babies afflicted with COVID at PCGH

Pasay Mayor Emi Calixto- Rubiano said on Friday that she will extend all the necessary assistance to the families of five infants and their mothers who were admitted at the Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH) who contracted coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Rubiano said lauded the PCGH personnel for their commitment in providing the highest levels of service to their patients despite the many challenges they encounter in performing their tasks.

The mayor thanked the doctors and nurses at the PCGH headed by Dr. John Victor De Gracia for taking good care of the babies and their mothers who were admitted at the PCGH.

De Gracia said out of the five infants, two tested positive for COVID-19, while the five mothers also tested positive for the virus.

“Upon the advice of our neonatologists, the three babies (who don't have COVID) were allowed to stay with their mothers in the COVID-19 wards,” De Gracia said.

One of the two babies who are positive for COVID is currently at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) while the other one is being treated in a ward together with the mother.

Dr. De Gracia said all the new-born babies except for the one at the NICU are doing fine and may be transferred to a quarantine facility or be discharged soon together with their mothers.

“Sa awa ng Diyos ay maayos na ang kalagayan ng mga bata at maaari na silang makauwi anumang oras mula ngayon,” (With God's grace, the infants are doing good and they may soon be discharged from the hospital) De Gracia said.

The mayor called on her constituents to be extra-vigilant and always practice the E.M.I. Habit -- Ensure to always wash your hands; Mask and Face shield are a must; and Implement physical distancing.

Rubiano also vowed to intensify the city's prevention, detection, intervention, treatment and re-integration program to curb the spread of the virus in the city.

As of August 19, Pasay City recorded 773 COVID-19 cases, 107 of which are new cases.
