The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic continues to hound the Philippine National Police (PNP) as its death toll reached 99 following the demise of another officer from Cebu City.

Citing a report from the PNP Health Service, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Friday, August 20, said its latest fatality was a 44-year-old lieutenant colonel who succumbed last August 18 to acute respiratory failure secondary to COVID-19.
"On August 11, said patient experienced mild symptoms of COVID-19 and immediately underwent an RT-PCR test which yielded a positive result," Eleazar said in a statement.
As of August 20, the PNP now has a total of 33,034 COVID-19 cases with 1,757 active cases and 31,178 recoveries.
