Ateneo, La Salle, San Carlos College partner with DOST to conduct health researches

The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), and San Carlos College have partnered with the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) to conduct health researches to help strengthen the country’s fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña cited that the Innovation Council is supporting the ongoing health-related projects of the three higher education institutions (HEIs).

“Researchers from the Ateneo de Manila University have printed eight out of the targeted 10 cough sensor prototypes and performed antibacterial testing on the material,” he said in a report.

The team developed the nanotech materials for the new normal under a DOST-PCIEERD project.

De la Peña said in July that the team was seeking to pilot test their coughing sensors, air circulator filters, and health monitors at ADMU.

He said testing of the fabricated printed electronics and the integration of codes for the breathing simulator were ongoing.

On the other hand, DLSU researchers are currently testing its photoluminescent metals to determine its efficacy in detecting various bacteria, DOST chief said.

He said the team is coordinating with the Hokkaido University for possible collaboration on the project.

De la Peña likewise reported that the project team from San Carlos College has already completed schematics for the prototypes of the thermal scanner helmet, and secured feedback, comments and suggestions on the device.
