Abalos: 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew to be retained during MECQ period; outdoor exercises allowed again

The curfew hours of 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. that were observed during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) the past two weeks shall be retained in the upcoming implementation of the modified ECQ (MECQ) in Metro Manila.

This was bared in a statement Friday afternoon, Aug. 20 by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos.

"The imposition of unified curfew hours from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. across the cities and municipality of NCR (National Capital Region) shall remain in effect until further notice," Abalos said.

The statement was released following late Thursday night's announcement that NCR or Metro Manila would be placed under MECQ from Aug. 21 to 31. The ECQ period in Metro Manila began last Aug. 6.

The ECQ--the strictest quarantine classification available--was implemented as a way to curb the spread of the dreaded Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, Abalos also announced that outdoor exercises will once again be allowed during the MECQ period.

"The resolution prohibiting Metro Manila residents from conducting their exercises outdoor which took effect last Aug. 9, will lapse today, August 20 as specified in the reso. Hence, outdoor exercises in NCR will be allowed for the period of MECQ starting tomorrow, August 21, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. only," he said.
