Southwest monsoon to bring more rains over parts of Luzon -- PAGASA

Expect more rains over some Luzon areas for the rest of the week due to the prevalence of the southwest monsoon, locally called "habagat," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday afternoon, Aug. 2.

In the next 24 hours, scattered to widespread moderate to at times heavy monsoon rains may affect Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Abra, and Apayao.

Occasional light to moderate with at times heavy rains may also prevail over Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Occidental Mindoro, Ifugao, Kalinga, Benguet, Mountain Province, the rest of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or rain-induced landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall, particularly in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards.

Based on the PAGASA's extended weather outlook for key areas from Aug. 3-6, Metro Manila will continue to be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with rain showers or thunderstorms on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

Monsoon rains will likely become more frequent in Metro Manila from Aug. 4-6, Wednesday to Friday.

Occasional monsoon rains may also persist over Tuguegarao City until Wednesday, while Baguio and Laoag cities may experience monsoon rains until Friday.
