The torrential southwest monsoon rains that the country experienced the past week has caused a whopping P1.17 billion worth of damage to infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

According to the department's Bureau of Maintenance, the heavy downpour enhanced by typhoon "Fabian" left P699.16 million worth of damage in Central Luzon alone. This includes P349.96 million worth of damage to roads and P301.20 million in terms of damage to flood-control structures.
Region 4-A is the second-most damaged region in terms of infrastructures. The DPWH recorded P224.2 million in total damage to roads and flood-control structures from the area.
Other affected regions are the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), with P113.51 million worth of damage to roads; Region 4-B (P60 million worth of damage to flood-control structures); National Capital Region or NCR (P39.66 million); and Region 1 with (P31.05 million worth of damage to roads and anti-flood structures).
Meanwhile, DPWH quick response teams have cleared a total of 32 national roads in Luzon. However, six roads remain closed to traffic, including four roads in CAR and two in Region 3 due to soil collapse and flooding.
A section of the Baguio-Bontoc Road in Paoay, Atok, Benguet; a section of Abra - Kalinga Road in Poblacion, Malibcong, Abra; two sections of the Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road in Poblacion, Buguias, Benguet; and a section of the Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road in Ambalideng, Poblacion, Kibungan, Benguet remained closed.
The Minalin-Macabebe Section of the Sto. Tomas–Minalin Road in Telacsan, Macabebe, Pampanga and two sections of the San Simon-Baliuag Road in San Isidro, San Simon, Pampanga are still off-limits to motorists due to flooding.
Currently, there are also four national road sections with limited access. These are the Busa Bridge along the Baguio-Bontoc Road in Sabangan, Mt. Province, which can only accommodate light vehicles; a section of the Junction Layac Balanga Mariveles Port Road, Mariveles Zigzag Road in Barangay Maligaya, Mariveles; sections of the Apalit Macabebe Masantol Road in Calsada Bayu, Sta.
