'Remarkable': BOC continues to surpass collection goals amid COVID-19 pandemic

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has surpassed its revenue collection goal for July 2021 by over P4.4 billion after posting an actual collection of P58.183 billion, the agency said Monday, August 2.

The bureau collected an excess of P4.432 billion, which is 8.2 percent higher than the P53.751-billion target for the month.

From January to July, a collection of P359.930 billion was collected by the bureau.

Based on the preliminary report from the BOC-Financial Service, 14 of the 17 collection districts under the bureau hit their respective targets.

These are the Ports of San Fernando, Manila, NAIA, Batangas, Legaspi, Tacloban, Surigao, Cagayan De Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri, and Limay.

"Remarkably, the BOC was able to meet and exceed its monthly target collections since the onset of pandemic in 2020," Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said, noting that last year, the bureau collected P539.687 billion or 106.23 percent of its target collection.

"Indeed, the bureau continues to prove the intensified collective efforts of all ports this year, not to mention, the improvement of volume of importation while maintaining border security and trade facilitation," Guerrero said.

The commissioner also commended the efforts of the frontliners and employees of the agency "who, despite the risk to their health and safety as Delta variant cases surge, showed their unwavering commitment and dedication to service."

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
