PCG joins community service, tree planting activity for former rebels in Davao City

Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Southeastern Mindanao have participated in community service and tree planting activity organized for the 38 former rebels in Davao City.

The PCG said the initiative was organized by the Humanitarian Organization for Peace Engagement (HOPE) Kababaihan Group for the 38 former rebels in Barangay Tamugan, Davao City on Friday, July 30.

The PCG said the personnel have hiked for at least four hours to reach the community of Matigsalug tribe, “led by former rebels, who surrendered to start a new life.”

The Coast Guard personnel have assisted in planting coconut trees, distribution of food supplies, PhilHealth registration, and turnover of livelihood assistance.

Commodore Allan Corpuz, commander of the PCG Southeastern Mindanao, expressed support in humanitarian activities for the people in the community.

“We are blessed to extend our service whenever needed, your PCG is always ready to collaborate in any project that would sustainable peace in our community,” Corpuz said in a statement on Monday, Aug. 2.
