Manila breaks ground for new Dr. Alejandro Albert Elementary School

The city of Manila broke ground for the construction of the new Dr. Alejandro Albert Elementary School in Sampaloc on Monday, August 2.

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Vice Mayor Ma. Sheilah ‘Honey’ Lacuna Pangan led the groundbreaking ceremony.

Domagoso said the Manila local government aims to strengthen the public school system and address the teacher-student ratio by redeveloping the city’s schools.

"Ito ang pangako namin sa lahat ng Batang Maynila sa pagpapaunlad ng ating mga pasilidad sa mga pampublikong paaralan (This is our promise to all the children of Manila to develop the facilities of our public schools),” he said.

The mayor also vowed that the city government will continue to address the concerns of the education sector.

"Kahit na patuloy tayong sinusubok ng pandemya, hindi namin kakalimutan ang education sector. Today is a testament to you. Patuloy natng papalakasin and ating public education system (Even though we are continuously being challenged by the pandemic, we will not forget the education sector. Today is a testament to this. We will continue to strengthen our public education system,” he said.

"We will continue to address the concern of our teachers and the future generation which is our students," he added.

Under the modernization project, the new Dr. Alejandro Albert Elementary School will have 234 classrooms, 16 offices, a library, canteen, auditorium, gym, roof deck, two basketball courts, seven stairs, and 10 elevators units with 24-person capacity each.

Dr. Alejandro Albert Elementary School was the last to break ground among the three schools which are part of the city’s modernization project.

The other two schools are the Manila Science High School and Rosauro Almario Elementary School in Tondo.
