Fil-American Kristina Knott missed a place in the women’s 200-meter semifinal of the Tokyo Olympics after finishing fifth and last in Heat 7 at the Olympic Track Stadium Monday morning.
Knott clocked 23.80 seconds in her group to trail behind United States’ Jenna Prandini (22.56sec), Gambia’s Gina Bass (22.74sec) and Australia’s Riley Day (22.94sec), who took the Top 3 places and automatically advanced to the next round.
Knott’s time was also slower than her Philippine record of 23.01sec and her season best of 23.17sec.
Overall, Knott finished 37th with only 24 runners advancing to the three-group semifinal.
Aside from the Top 3 finishers in each heat, the top 3 best performing times from combined heats also earned tickets to the next round.
Namibia’s Christine Mboma led the semifinalists with a new world under-20 record of 22.11sec, followed by USA’s Gabrielle Thomas (22.20sec) and Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (22.22sec).
