DICT prepares for full implementation of digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate system

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is currently preparing for the full implementation of the digital coronavirus vaccination certificate system.

“Ang DICT ay kasalukuyang naghahanda para sa full implementation ng (The DICT is currently preparing for the full implementation of the) digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate system,” said Secretary Gregorio Honasan II in a public briefing Monday, Aug. 2.

Last month, the department announced that it may start issuing coronavirus vaccine certificates to vaccinated individuals by “early August.”

DICT Undersecretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic had said that the agency is waiting for local government units (LGUs) to complete their submission of vaccine recipients’ information in the verification database system.

The LGUs were given until July 31 to submit the list of their vaccinated residents to the database system created by the agency.

Meanwhile, the DICT chief said the development of the country's vaccine information management system (VIMS) is underway.

“Ginagawa na ito. Meron tayong VIMS, yung vaccination information management system na ginagawa na natin (It is already underway. We have this VIMS, the vaccination information management system, that we are already working on),” Honasan said.

“Pero lahat ng ito, depende rin sa kakayanan ng local government para hanapin ang data (But all these depend on the capacity of the local government to find the data),” he added.

Based on the latest government data, more than 9 million individuals have so far been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the country.

“Ang vaccination system natin ay in place na (Our vaccination system is in place),” he said.

“Ang ginagawa lang natin ay sinisiguro natin na timely, accurate and complete information ang gagamitin natin na galing sa local government para desisyunan kung magla-lockdown ba o luluwagan (What we do is make sure that we use timely, accurate and complete information from the local government to decide whether to impose lockdown or ease restrictions),” he added.
