COVID-19 admissions in PGH increase

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) admissions in the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has increased over the past week, its spokesperson said Monday, Aug. 2.

PGH, the largest COVID-19 referral hospital in the country, is now treating 143 infected patients as of Monday, up from 100 on July 12.

"Patuloy po ang pagtaas simula nung nakaraang linggo. Tina-track namin for the last 10 days, talagang consistent na umaakyat ang aming admissions (Our admissions have been increasing since last week. We have been tracking for the last 10 days, the increase has been really consistent)," Dr. Jonas del Rosario said in an interview with TeleRadyo.

"Paakyat po sya, two days ago 125 lang. Talagang consistent po na umaakyat ang aming admissions (It's really rising, two days ago, we only had 125 patients)," Del Rosario noted.

He added that most of their patients either experience moderate or severe COVID-19 symptoms.

Some of its health workers who contracted mild to moderate COVID-19 were also admitted, the spokesperson noted.

"Hindi kasing dami noon. Buti naman po kasi most of our health workers are fully vaccinated. Wala naman po kaming health workers na na-admit na critical (Not as many as before. Good thing because most of our health workers are fully vaccinated. We do not have any health workers who have been admitted as critical)," Del Rosario added.

The Department of Health on Sunday, Aug. 1, logged 8,735 new COVID-19 cases.
