Ambuklao, Binga dams open more gates; increase water discharges

The number of gates releasing water at Ambuklao and Binga dams in Benguet was increased to eight and six, respectively, on Monday, Aug. 2, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in an advisory.

Ambuklao Dam's eight gates were opened at 5.5 meters and Binga Dam's six gates were opened at 7 meters on Monday morning.

Only one gate at each dam was opened at 0.50 meters on Sunday, Aug. 1.

Based on the PAGASA's monitoring as of 6 a.m., Monday, Ambuklao's water level increased to 751.95 meters--just 0.05 meters short of its 752.0-meter normal high water level.

Binga Dam's water level was 574.77 meters, which is also close to its 575.0-meter normal high water level.

Most of the water outflow from Ambuklao Dam goes down to Binga Dam, and further down to San Roque Dam in Pangasinan.

However, PAGASA advised residents of barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Benguet to take necessary precautionary measures against possible flooding.

PAGASA's monitoring showed that the water level in San Roque Dam significantly increased from 249.73 meters to 252.16 meters.

Authorities are currently not conducting spilling operations at San Roque Dam as its current water level is still far from its 280-meter normal high water level.
