Tropical depression 'Isang' enters PAR

The tropical depression east of Luzon has entered the Philippine area responsibility (PAR) on Thursday morning, Aug. 19, and was named “Isang”.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the center of the tropical depression 1,410 kilometers (km) east of Northern Luzon as of 10 a.m.

It packed a maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, with gustiness up to 55 kph, while moving northwestward at 25 kph.

“Isang is unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country throughout the forecast period,” PAGASA said.

“The latest forecast scenario for Isang shows that the hoisting of tropical cyclone wind signals over any land area in the country is unlikely,” it added.

State meteorologists said Isang entered country’s monitoring area at around 10 a.m.

On the forecast track, the tropical depression will remain far from the archipelago, and will move generally northwestward throughout the forecast period, PAGASA said.

Isang may likely exit the PAR by Sunday morning or afternoon, Aug. 22, the state weather bureau noted.

It added that the weather system will likely to remain a tropical depression, and may weaken into a low pressure area by Monday, Aug. 23.
