Robbery ruled out in former tabloid editor's slay

Police have ruled out robbery as a possible motive behind the killing of a former tabloid newspaper editor, who is also a businesswoman, in Quezon City after they found that the perpetrator only shot dead the victim and did not take anything before fleeing the crime scene.

Based on the recent investigation of the Quezon City Police District, it appeared the gunman had been waiting outside the GOTT Salon in Barangay Apolonio Samson owned by 41-year-old victim Gwenn Salamida before he commited the crime.

This came after a grab delivery rider who witnessed the incident told probers he had just delivered the food Salamida ordered when a gunman wearing a black t-shirt, a bull cap, and a black mask suddenly barged into the salon around 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday and fired shots at her.

Her partner, Oliver Perona, was also shot at. He remains in the hospital due to gunshot wounds.

The witness said the gunman immediately went out of the salon and boarded a motorcycle being driven by an accomplice. They sped off towards EDSA Southbound, the witness added.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement Wednesday night the local government "fervently condemns her brutal murder."

"We would to assure the victims' respective families that we will be applying the full power of the law to hunt down the perpetrator of this heinous crime so that justice will be swift and immediate," she added.

"I offer my sincerest condolences, including the whole Quezon City government, to the family and loved ones of Ms. Gwenn Salamida, who was cold-bloodedly killed by still unidentified perpetrators," Belmonte said.
