PH logs second-highest daily rise in COVID-19 cases at 14,895

The Philippines registered 14,895 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Thursday, Aug. 19 --- the second highest number of new cases reported in a day.

The new infections pushed the country’s cumulative tally to 1,791,003, the DOH case bulletin showed.

The biggest single day tally was recorded last April 2 with 15,310 cases then.

Of the total case count, 6.2 percent or 111,720 are active cases. The DOH said that 95.3 percent of the active cases have mild symptoms, 1.8 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are critical, 1.3 percent are severe, and 0.87 percent have moderate symptoms.

The DOH also reported 8,248 more patients who have recovered as well as the death of 258 more patients.

These figures brought the country’s recovery tally to 1,648,402 while the death toll increased to 30,881.

All COVID-19 laboratories nationwide were operational, however, two of them were not able to submit their data on time to the COVID-19 Document Repository System, thus, their data are not yet included in the tally, the DOH said.
