Filinvest housing building in Alabang put on lockdown due to COVID-19 cases

A building at a housing project in Alabang, Muntinlupa has been put under lockdown due to rising coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

Building 17 at Filinvest Socialized Housing has been placed under a 14-day Extreme Localized Community Quarantine (ELCQ) starting at 6 p.m. of Aug. 19 until 6 p.m. of Sept. 2.

Filinvest Socialized Housing is an 18-building residential complex in Alabang.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said only one building in the complex has been put under lockdown but urged residents in adjacent buildings to exercise extra caution and strictly observe health protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield, physical distancing and frequent handwashing.

As of Aug. 18, there are seven active cases in Building 17, which houses 115 residents.

The attack rate in the building has increased from 437.78 last week to 608.69 per 10,000 population.

The doubling time, or the number of days for COVID-19 cases to double in number, in the area also narrowed to at least four days.

Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) chief Dr. Juancho Bunyi said the local government decided to impose ELCQ in the building as clustering of cases was observed and due to the presence of high risk groups in the area such as senior citizens, persons with disabilities and children under five years old.

“The community is congested and units are close together, that’s why transmission is really high. If we allow the mobility of people in the building, the risk of transmission will be greatly enhanced,” said Bunyi. He also noted that social distancing and the strict use of face masks are not strictly followed.

Total lockdown will be implemented in the community, and residents will be prohibited to go out of their residences except for emergency cases.

The CHO will conduct mass testing and contact tracing in the area.

The City Social Service Department and Barangay Alabang will give food packs and other basic items to the affected residents during the period of ELCQ.

The area will be secured by Muntinlupa police.

In July last year, three buildings at Filinvest Socialized Housing were put under ELCQ due to COVID-19 cases.

The Filinvest Socialized Housing is the seventh community in Muntinlupa to be placed under ELCQ since the enhanced community quarantine started last Aug. 6.

Other areas in Muntinlupa that are under ELCQ are Angelo Street, Horilleno Street, Endencia Street, Paredes Street and Barrera Street in Katarungan Village, Brgy. Poblacion from Aug. 19 to Sept. 2; Purok 3, Molera Compound in Barangay Sucat and Purok 7, Beatriz Compound, De Mesa L & B Street in Barangay Alabang from Aug. 6 to 27; Block 8, Hills View and Mangga Street, Lakeview Homes in Barangay Putatan from Aug. 12 to 26; and Chico Street, Laguerta in Barangay Tunasan from Aug. 10 to 25.

Muntinlupa has 2,028 active COVID-19 cases out of 17,312 confirmed cases, 14,872 recoveries and 412 deaths as of Aug. 18.
