DepEd: Over 5.3 million learners enrolled for SY 2021-2022

The Department of Education (DepEd) has recorded more than 5.3 million enrollees at the basic education level in both public and private schools for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.

As of Thursday, Aug. 19, the enrollment figure based on the Learner Information System (LIS) - Quick Count showed that there are 5,356, 643 learners enrolled in public schools, private schools and State Universities and Colleges/Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs/LUCs) that offer basic education.

In preparation for the school opening in public schools next month, DepEd is currently holding the regular enrollment period which started on Aug. 16 and will run until on Sept. 13 --- the school opening date approved by President Duterte.

Based on the “Quick Count” which uses the LIS as the database, there are 799, 316 learners who enrolled at the basic education level since the regular enrollment period started.

The latest DepEd data showed there are 734, 306 enrollees in public schools; 63, 102 enrollees in private schools and 1, 908 in SUCs/LUCs.

DepEd clarified that the enrollment figure includes those who participated in the Early Registration held in March to May this year.

As of June 2, DepEd has recorded 4.5 million early registrants for the incoming SY which include incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners.

The latest enrollment figure also showed that Region IV-A has the highest number of enrollees with a running total of 710, 526. It is followed by Region III with 450, 202 and Region VI with 436, 301.

Schools in Metro Manila have a running total of 428, 943 enrollees.

To ensure the safety of parents, learners, teachers and school staff, DepEd has issued enhanced enrollment guidelines to guide parents, legal guardians, and teachers in the enrollment of learners for the incoming SY.

As stated in DepEd Order No. 32 s. of 2021, DepEd provided schools various options for implementing an “enhanced enrollment process” that adheres to the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), the Office of the President, and the Department of Health (DOH).

The “enhanced enrollment process,” DepEd said, also aims to provide a “range of options” to facilitate the enrollment of learners for all public schools in basic education which also include Alternative Learning System (ALS) programs nationwide.
